Required Texts:
There are no books to purchase for this course. Required reading will be made available electronically either on MYLMU connect or the course website (sometimes both). The password for the blog is FYS05. You are required to watch films and television episodes outside of class time. When possible DVDs will be put on reserve at the library. Some of these are available online only, and some will be available for viewing in evening screenings. Please don’t try to watch any of these on YouTube (unless I tell you to go there: it’s not a reliable source).

You can sign up with Netflix this semester to access online only content there (indicated with a *) if you want to watch these on your own time.

Graded Assignments:
Attendance and in-class participation: 15 points
Blog participation: 10 points
Two essays with revisions: 10, 15 and 20 for a total of 45 points
Information literacy quizzes: 10 points
Annotated bibliography: 10 points
Writing portfolio and self-reflection: 10 points
Total: 100 points
Extra Credit: up to 3 points, maximum, not to exceed 100 points.

Extra Credit: During the semester there will be opportunities for students to attend events on and off campus that are relevant to the course and write up a one page reflective essay on the experience for 1 extra credit point. You may earn up to 3 points this way over the course of the semester. Dr. Perez and I will announce relevant events in class as we become aware of them, and we welcome you to bring events to our attention.
