A little something about me…. (Introducing Beatriz)

Hello CHST 404 class! My name is Beatriz Alfaro and I am a Junior studying Spanish and Women’s Studies at LMU. I love both of my majors and they reflect who I am. My family is from El Salvador which means I grew up around the language and I have come to absolutely love it. My Women’s Studies major is a perfect fit for me because I am very passionate about women’s issues and creating more opportunities for women to succeed. That is why I am interested in attending Law School because I feel that the best way I can help others and my community is by bettering myself. With my skills and law degree I can cater to many communities and also apply what I have learned in my undergraduate career. I always wanted to take a Chicano Studies class because I’m interested in learning more about the growth and development of the Chicano movement. This class will be amazing because it intersects with my major and a new study I know very little about. I can’t wait for an incredible semester and insightful class discussions!

  1. Hi everyone, my name is Kelsey Chine. I am currently a senior and I am a business major. I have never studied Chicano feminism before so I am looking to learn as much as I can in the class. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles where the population is basically Latino and African Americans. It will be interesting to see the how the lives of Chicano women compare to those of other women. I know I will mostly be asking a lot of questions and soaking up a ton of info throughout the course. I am ready to learn about Chicano Feminism!

    1. This is good to read Kelsey, but it would be better if you posted it as part of your own blog introduction post — I want to make sure everyone can do the basics on WordPress. Let me know if you’re having trouble.

  2. Hello! My name is Erika Meza and I am a junior Applied Math/Spanish double major. I am from Wilmington, CA, not too far from LMU. This is my first Chicano Studies/Women Studies course at LMU. I became interested in the content of the class becuase I think there is a lot to learn from the progress that Chicana women have made over the past years. Both of my parents are from Mexico and I am very interested in knowing more about the history of Mexican-American women and how the struggles and advances that they have been through have changed up until today.
