Yummy, Ice cream!!!

Hello, my name is Silvia Delgadillo and my major is IDS (Cultural Pluralism). I am happy to say that this is my last semester, hoping to graduate this May. One of favorite deserts is ice cream from Fair Oaks Pharmacy located in S. Pasadena, CA. They have cones to sundaes and my favorite flavored sundae is vanilla and chocolate ice cream with whip cream topped with chocolate syrup. The ice cream is frozen, rich and creamy with so much sweetness, it is so yummy. They are huge as you can see and is perfect for you and your family to enjoy. They have a variety of flavored ice cream with a variety of topping as well.  This place is a must have!

Lorena’s favorite dishes

Hi y’all

My name is Lorena Calderon, I’m a senior here at CSUDH. This is my last semester and I am graduating in May. I enjoyed my time at DH and will definitely miss all of my professors.  I plan to attain my single subject credential and teach history to high school students. My favorite dishes are cheese enchiladas and Chilaquiles served with sour cream, cotija cheese, red rice, salsa, and beans.  I love this dish because it’s so cheesy and easy to make. I can eat them at least once a week. Here is a food selfie from last Monday, from a bakery in Koreatown, its called Paris Baquette located on 3060 W. Olympic Blvd. LA, Ca. 90006.  I love this cream-filled croissant pastry because it’s sweet but not too sweet and the filling is comprised of choux cream and fresh strawberries. I also love the powdered sugar on top of the puff pastry or croissant. I don’t have a favorite pastry so every time I go to Paris Baguette I try a different one.

Pasta and Persian

Hi my nickname is CindyLou.   I’m an ELAC transfer student and this is my second semester at Dominguez hills.  I am a full-time student and employee majoring in Interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in American Studies. My goal is to graduate in Spring 20201.

Since food is such a huge part of our culture and society, I am so excited to be in this class.  I hope to have an opportunity to experience new foods/desserts. I grew up in an Italian household and ate pasta a few times a week. Even though I enjoy eating all kinds of food, for me, pasta is my true comfort food. Especially when topped with the sauce my grandmother made when I was a child.

half pistachio and half pomegranate ice cream from Mashti Malone’s in Hollywood, California

My food selfie is one that my son took of me on Mother’s Day enjoying my favorite half pistachio and half pomegranate ice cream cup from Mashti Malone’s in Hollywood, California.  This place has the best Persian Ice creams in town.

My favorite food is Tomato Basil Pasta.  Tomato Basil Pasta is a quick and easy sauce made with and your favorite pasta; mine is penne pasta and juicy tomatoes. Perfect for lunch or dinner and ready in just 20 minutes, it’s a delicious meal that the whole family will love.  This sauce is my personal favorite, not only because it reminds me of my grandmother, because it’s super fresh and you don’t use any cream or butter, so you don’t feel guilty about eating everything on plate.

Morning Omelets Always a Favorite!

I cut the omelet to show the veggies…

Hello everyone.  My name is Lucy De Anda-Gomez and I plan to graduate next year. This past Sunday I had breakfast with a friend at Andy’s Coffee Shop in Pasadena.  Very popular with the locals, Andy’s is a casual and nostalgic diner which makes you feel like you are in the 60s.  I ordered my favorite breakfast pick- a vegetable omelet.  It may not look too pretty, but it was delicious.  Filled with sautéed tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms, the aroma of these veggies cooked together was heavenly.  Vegetable omelets are not only delicious but healthy as well.  I gave my friend the hash browns to enjoy (as I am not currently eating carbs).  If you are looking for delicious (and reasonably priced) American or Mexican breakfast or brunch fare and are in the Pasadena area, drop by Andy’s Coffee Shop.  Fun fact: all coffee shop scenes from the shows Mad Men and Veep were filmed here.

One of Lupita’s favorites

Hello everyone my name is Lupita and this is my first year at Cal State Dominguez Hills and I am planning to graduate within the next 2 years.

I am not sure if snacks count as a food but I wanted to share this new favorite snack of mine from Disneyland that I have labeled as a food because it filled me up so well that I could not eat another bite of anything for the rest of the day. This is the new chocolate covered pineapple spear. It is the most fulfilling, perfect combination of rich, sweet and creamy milk and white chocolate mix that completely covers a sugary, sweet and juicy pineapple spear. When you eat it be prepared to have plenty of napkins available because the flavors begin melting into each other immediately after the first bite, but do not worry because you will only be left with the stick that holds it together.

Dr. Perez – Cupcakes and Tamales

Birthday Cupcake from Heirloom Bakery

Birthday Cupcake from Heirloom Bakery

I’m Dr. Perez, an assistant professor at CSUDH. My majors were in English for my BA, MA, and Ph.D. I finished my Ph.D. in 2011 at USC.

My food selfie is one I took of my birthday cupcake from Heirloom Bakery in South Pasadena. It’s a homemade (well, cafe-made), grown-up version of a Hostess Cupcake. It was excellent.

My favorite food, at least for today and coming out of the holiday season are tamales. I seriously love tamales and not only because they are delicious (which they are) but because of their indigenous roots in the Americas and their associations for me with home, family and the Christmas holidays. Unwrapping a tamale, hot from the steamer and almost burning my fingers is a joy. I like all kinds of tamales, sweet and savory, wrapped in corn or banana leaves, meat or vegetarian. That said, when faced with a variety of tamale choices, my first pick is almost always red pork. There’s something about the sweetness of the corn, the meatiness of the pork and the spiciness of the red chile that makes my mouth water.

This is the third time I’ve taught this class and I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you.
