GHG – Marcus

Without health, we are nothing. Any other necessity – hunger, thirst, aspirations and all other desires are superseded by the basic human necessity of life. Most of us sitting in this room, are all within a parameter that would be considered ‘relatively healthy.’ And if this is not the case, we at least are assured by the fact that there is an extensive healthcare network. In theory, most of us in the developing world are able to see a doctor within a matter of days, if not hours. I for one, take great comfort in knowing this and I am truly distraught that this is not the case on a global scale. This is why I have founded Global Health Group (GHG). GHG’s primary goal is to reign in a new era of healthcare on global scale, particularly in developing nations. See, the issue with developing nations’ healthcare system is that it is expensive and inaccessible, if even existent. GHG and its members feel an obligation to serve those who have historically been underserved. GHG plans on doing so by creating a for-profit healthcare network throughout developing nations.

The target audience for the social media that GHG will use is those people who would need to have access to this healthcare (primarily rural people in poor areas).

The social media of my choice will be cellphones. In many countries, even in developing ones, the number of cellphones exceeds the number of people in the country. With technology advancing so rapidly, and the price of cellphone decreasing, more and more people have access to cellphones. They don’t require a sign-up, they don’t require very expensive costs and are an easy way to reach a large amount of people. I plan on having an extensive list of people that live in rural areas and require access to healthcare. Through SMS messages, these individuals will receive instructions of their medical visits, the address of the clinic, and a set of instructions for what to bring to their health appointment. Furthermore, patients will be able to schedule appointments by replying to these text messages.

Cellphones are an excellent way of reaching those that live in underdeveloped nations. An example of how these phones are already bringing in a new lifestyle for underserved people is it allows them to read. A UNESCO study found that people are now using books to read more than they ever have. According to the study, there are more than 6 billion cellphones which surpasses the number of people that have access to toilets. Cellphones are becoming a tool to empower people, and more importantly, provide them access to health.

Furthermore, I will have a website that will provide a wide array of information on GHG and the services it provides. This will be the primary way for people to supply donations. This aspect of the social media site is essential to the project as much of the work that will be done will be funded primarily by donations. The website is still in the works, but the basis of the website can be found here.

Safe Monetary Investor Fund (SMIF)

Welcome to the Safe Monetary Investor Fund. Please help towards the cause.

This is a non-for-profit organization that seeks to provide safe travels for individuals who can not find a safe ride home, or that of which do not have the financial ability to pay for a ride. The goal of this organization is to reduce the amount drunk driving deaths and incidents, in oder to provide a better and safer world. With the help of phone application, the implement of transportation technology and with the help of your investment; together we can acceleration the reduction of drunk driving incidents.

In the zero tolerance society that we live in, it is our responsibility as a community to bring this preventable lack of judgement to an end. This could prevent drunk driving effecting you.

The financial support from your donations with be used in efforts to improve the technology needed to reduce drunk driving. This is achieved by creating a monetary fund that is paid by tax payers. That invested money will be the tool for funding the apps and services such as Uber, Lift, and many others, in corporation with the Breath-O-Meter technology. The Breath-O-Meter will be standard issued in every vehicle, and if an alcohol level of .02% or above is indicated then the driver will qualify for the SMIF that will transmit the information to a transportation service that will supply a ride for no immediate payment.

After the ride it provided in 8-10 business days the rider will receive a notification that draws money out of their social security account and will be given back to the investor for the money that they donated and will be used towards a tax write off for their investment.

In the end this will reduce the amount of drunk driving innocents exponentially.

Social Media Campaign: Peaceful Borders

  • Due to unstable conditions in parts of Central and South America, individuals attempt to journey North in search of the opportunity for more prosperous living conditions. Others cross the border between the United States and Mexico simply for reasons of visitation; however, because of anti-immigrant and/or racist sentiments, many fall victim to injustice on the part of border patrol agents. These law officials often get away with numerous forms of verbal and physical abuse, leaving behind them a trail of unpunished damage done to undeserving human lives.
  • The social media platform that I plan to utilize is Facebook because it reaches a vast audience of youth and adults, provides a space for visual representations of the issue at hand and relevant written information. It can be used to get into direct contact with individuals who are interested in the topic and can be manipulated in numerous ways in order to sufficiently convey the message at hand.
  • I will use visuals that portray injustice towards Latinos/as at the border on the part of law officials in order to provide impactful evidence of daily occurrences that often go overlooked.
  • I will be creating a logo for the campaign that embodies peaceful and humanitarian relations across borders and plan to continually update the Facebook page with new posts and perhaps opportunities to help in order to keep followers engaged in discussion.

4 Minute Reflective Speech

On Wednesday or Friday of this week you’re going to be giving a 4 minute reflective speech based on your paper. Yes, you can and should use notes.

Note that I didn’t write that you’re going to read your essay for 4 minutes. This won’t work for a couple of reasons. First, reading a paper to an audience tends to be boring. Also, you have 4 minutes. This means, depending on how fast you talk, that your speech is likely to be 400-600 words, considerably shorter than your essay.

Your talk should have three parts: An introduction, a body and a conclusion. These should not be the same length. The introduction of you and your technology should take less than a minute. Likewise, your conclusion should be less than a minute. The bulk of your time should be focused on your transformation by that technology.

Practice, practice, practice.
