Ever since I was a young the idea of magic and mythical creatures have always peaked my interest. Stories like the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and The chronicles of Narnia books were stories that I grew up reading. It wasn’t until I was a little older that I was introduced to Harry Potter. My earliest memory of seeing Harry Potter was when I was 13 years old and watching tv during winter break. I didn’t know what installment I was watching back then but now that I have seen all the movies I know I was watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I didn’t pay much attention to the film because I didn’t know much about the plot that was going on throughout the movie. However one scene really captured my attention which was the bus scene with the talking head, I was both freaked out by the head but entertained by the moving bus driving crazy in the streets of London.
From then on, I wasn’t interested in reading or seeing any of the Harry Potter books or movie even though I had some friends that were telling me that I should. They were big Harry Potter fans and would often discuss about the films and movies. I ended up learning some things about Harry Potter for example I learned about the different houses at Hogwarts and what they represent and I also learned some spells like Expecto Patronus and Avada Kedavra.
It wasn’t until my Final year at Cal State Dominguez Hills that I finally took an interest in watching and reading Harry Potter. My art history teacher recommended me to take this harry potter class after I told her I needed an elective to graduate. As soon as I got the class I started watching all the films and read the books. I was surprised with how much I the idea of a magical school filled with witches and wizards, and how magic is all around us but humans couldn’t see it. I also took the quiz to see what house I belonged and I got Gryffindor which was cool especially when I got Gryffindor again in the house sorting’s on the first day of class. Even though I’m not an expert on Harry Potter I’ve come to appreciate how well these books and films created a fandom that is beloved by people around the world and I hope to learn more about the world of Harry Potter.
