I really enjoyed your blog about La Llorona. It was very informative, insightful, and also aesthetically pleasing. I found C. Alejandra Elenes’ critique to be very interesting and thought-provoking. There was vivid imagery as you discussed the “loss of children,” “wails, screams, and cries,” and the “search for children.” The violence, despair, and trauma from conquest and colonization evoke Gothic imagery. In addition, this imagery disheartened me and reminded me of the gory reality depicted in Leon-Portilla’s “The Broken Spears.”
