The character I most fascinating in the book So Far From God was that of La Loca. I found her interesting because she was different than the others. I thought it was interesting that she didn’t like being around human but rather animals,I think a lot of us could relate to some aspect of this, i know for myself sometimes i would just rather be around my cat than to go out with friends. I also really enjoyed the aspect about her and that she pushed boundaries of being the traditional Chicana, unlike her mother. I found it funny when they mention shes allergic to people, because I always say things like that, when i dont feel like being around others, maybe thats why i was so drawn to her character because i found relate to so many aspects of her life.
What character do you feel you identified yourself with most, and why?
I found some resemblence with La Loca too because I also tend to be an introvert. However, I don’t think it’s healthy to only surround one’s self with animals rather than humans. Yet, animals are more loyal than humans are. For this reason, I believe that La Loca has trust issues with humans, especially since she says she’s allergic to people. Still, her character was very intersting within the text.
The character that I identified with the most is Esperanza. Esperanza was the one I identified with the most because she was the one who had a similar path as me. By that I mean that we have very similar educational experiences. Esperanza was an educated Chicana who majored in Chicano Studies. I am a dedicated Chicano majoring in Chicano Studies. The bond between Esperanza and Sofia is also another reason I identify with her. I have a very strong bond with my mother and I feel it is similar to that of Esperanza and Sofia. That is why Esperanza is the character I feel I can identify with the most.
I loved La Locas’ character as well, she was unique and seemed she enjoyed her own company. I love being by my self, my sisters say im weird when I go shopping alone. It is also very interesting because I love animals, I have two dogs, a cat, a turtle, two chickens, I had rescued a duck and took care of it, until he learned how to fly and he never returned.

I feel like I am a lot like her. I enjoy being with my pets, instead of other people. I have two dogs and I cannot imagine life without them.
